Room n. 16 – THE LAB (Leipzig 2018) - Limited Edition 2/125 - Print only
The artwork is a digital collage of original photographs shot by me in Leipzig in 2018.
It is part of a photographic project aimed at telling places and sensations. Sometimes the storytelling is about symbolic places, other times about locations that just leave you breathless.
This piece is about new life.
At the end of the 19th century Leipzig was the hub of Central European railway traffic and this led to a fast industrialization of the city. In 1907 the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei became the largest cotton mill company on the continent. And in this place I wanted to set this story. A place that has been a symbol of the prosperity of this city and which today represents its artistic rebirth. After the devastation left by the Second World War, from the impoverishment caused by the Cold War to the collapse of the Berlin Wall, I like to imagine this industrial space as a laboratory of ideas that looks to the future of Leipzig.
