The artwork is a digital collage of original photographs shot by me in Rotterdam in 2021.

It is part of a photographic project aimed at telling places and sensations. Sometimes the storytelling is about symbolic places, other times about locations that just leave you breathless.

This piece is about rebirth.

Meeting Rotterdam is learning its history. The story I would like to tell is the one of the phoenix rising from the ashes. This is my vision of Rotterdam since the first time I visited it. Like a phoenix risen from the ashes of a war that in 1940 almost completely destroyed the heart of the city a result hundreds of victims. Rebirth means the cohesive effort of people, bodies and souls linked to give a new life to a scar, not to cancelled it, but to grow again with hope and consciousness. Observing it today, proud in the height of its skyscrapers, is both incredible and touching.

This artwork received an HONORABLE MENTION in IPA 2022 and it was selected as one of the finalists in the 55th ARTAVITA Online Art Contest.
